18thC Sailor's Cap- to order

£65.00
Sold Out

Hand knitted in British wool then lightly fulled to provide extra warmth, the shaping and decoration of this cap is based closely on images of the extant hat from the General Carleton of Whitby shipwreck 1785, and is appropriate for wear for the later half of the 18th century. Featuring a shaggy thrummed brim to keep foul weather out of your eyes, and a jaunty colourwork pattern and tassel, this is a very jolly cap and is certain to brighten up your costume as well as being a very cheerful hat for modern wear in cold weather. The original cap is very faded and it is uncertain precisely what its original colouring was, but it appears to combine shades of undyed wool with dyed sections. The examples below are my interpretations on possible colour combinations, and I can make this hat in any combination of shades you might like, and if the yarn is already available in my stash I'll use naturally dyed elements at no additional cost when combined with undyed sections.

Made to order. The way our order book is currently working, we open the shop approximately once a quarter for new commissions and shut it again once we have as many orders as we think we can realistically make over the next three months or so. Please be aware that your order may fall anywhere into that timescale. We'll always aim to be as prompt as we can.
