Some outfits call for thin, light, finely knit stocking, but silk is still too grand. Enter our superfine wool stockings, made on the same 108 needle 1890's hand cranked stocking machine used for the silk stockings, but in a soft, light 2/17nm merino. Typical leg gauge 11 stitches to the inch. Please note, we've had Gareth destruction testing these, and they are holding up pretty well after repeated wearing, but there is no doubt that you will need to darn rather earlier than you might with our usual yarns. Save these for your party outfits and don't expect to be able to march miles in heavy boots in them! To help out, a reinforcement thread is worked in when we knit the toes as standard. Comfy short row heel. Mending thread supplied.
Three lengths, Standard comes just over the knee on most wearers, Mid-thigh is knit six inches longer (unstretched), and Hi-thigh another six again, so will come pretty much 'all the way up' on most wearers. Seam, or not, as you see fit. Most people will need to garter or otherwise support their stockings. Each additional variation adds just £2 so you can design exactly the stocking that works for your outfit. Hand wash!
Made to order. The way our order book is currently working, we open the shop approximately once a month for new commissions and shut it again once we have as many orders as we think we can realistically make over the next 6 weeks or so. Please be aware that your order may fall anywhere into that timescale. We'll always aim to be as prompt as we can.
