Broadly based on an example in the V&A museum dated to around 1820 (thumbnail in one of the images above), our elegant pure silk nightcap is hand made on an antique circular stocking machine and carefully finished with a jaunty tassel. The silk used is a slightly matt yarn with a crisp handle, so not as shiny and slippery feeling as our undyed nightcap, and has been worked at a relaxed enough gauge to stretch to fit most head sizes. Lightweight, only around 30g, so very comfortable on, this is enough to keep your head gently warm without overheating, just right for evenings next to the fire with a glass of something delicious and a good book!! Choose from Maroon, Rouge ( a true red, the image here looks a little lighter than it really is), deep Rose pink or Dark Indigo, all striped with a heavy cream shade. We may have other shades available including rich browns or possibly green, so please feel free to get in touch when ordering to check shade availability if you fancy something different. Sizing is fairly flexible, I'm working these in two broad sizes, small will fit up to a 23 inch head well, large for head sizes over 23 inches (the larger 'stunt head' in the image above is 24 inches). Unstretched width about 10 inches by 13 inches tall excluding tassel. Made to order.
