Based on a hat from the whaling deposits on Spitsbergen, dated somewhere between 1600-1800 and featuring dramatic ear 'dents' and decorative patterning on the turn back cuff. A number of hats are known from this location and the originals are now in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
The pictured example here is in wool, fulled after knitting to create a warm, thick surface. Modelled on an original worked in olive green with a cuff in light brown and blue, with shaped 'ear dents' that stick out slightly from the head.
I can make this hat in any shade combination you may require, and let me know if there are any size or styling modifications you'd like me to make. Made to order. The way our order book is currently working, we open the shop approximately once a month for new commissions and shut it again once we have as many orders as we think we can realistically make over the next 6 weeks or so. Please be aware that your order may fall anywhere into that timescale. We'll always aim to be as prompt as we can.
