Made to order: handknitted Scots bonnet (broad bonnet) in British wool, heavily brushed and fulled (felted) after knitting to create a thick dense warm bonnet suitable for re-enactment/costume wear, and also extremely popular with Highland dress.
Measured flat these are typically 12 inches in diameter and feature a fully adjustable headsize as there is a ribbon run inside the ribbed narrow band to allow you to secure the bonnet at whatever size suits you. I am happy to make the bonnet a little larger or smaller.
A wide variety of dyed and undyed shades are available, most popular ones are listed, but feel free to request something specific, I often have to dye the yarn for these to order. A toorie is an optional extra, very early bonnets rarely have them, later ones frequently do.
Made to order. The way our order book is currently working, we open the shop approximately once a month for new commissions and shut it again once we have as many orders as we think we can realistically make over the next 6 weeks or so. Please be aware that your order may fall anywhere into that timescale. We'll always aim to be as prompt as we can.
Sally Pointer - Heritage education
bringing you objects, skills, and inspiration from the past, to enrich the future
We are sorry to have to announce that Gareth died on Friday 26 March 2021 after being diagnosed with cancer in the autumn of 2020.
Sally had surgery for breast cancer on 30 March and is also currently doing an MSc in Experimental Archaeology, so between healing and university is currently working a bit more slowly than usual. Thank you for your patience and support!
