Hand knitted in pure wool, this hat has been knitted double-thick then fulled to provide extra warmth (and excellent padding properties if you choose to wear it as a helmet liner). With the double brim, loop and 'button' characteristic of the type of hat usually known as 'Monmouth caps', my interpretation is modelled on a surviving example which is sixteenth century in date, but it is likely that similar caps were in use a little earlier and they continued in use for several hundred years after that date.

Medium to large in size, the deep brim can be folded up if required. A wide range of dyed and undyed shades are available.

Made to order. The way our order book is currently working, we open the shop approximately once a month for new commissions and shut it again once we have as many orders as we think we can realistically make over the next 8 weeks or so. Please be aware that your order may fall anywhere into that timescale. We'll always aim to be as prompt as we can.
