Location: Ancient Technology Centre, Damerham Road, Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 5RP
Website of the ATC: https://ancienttechnologycentre.com
Taking inspiration from prehistoric finds of sprang braided textiles, we will begin with an overview of the archaeological evidence for sprang, then get to grips with setting up a simple sprang frame using easily sourced bent sticks. S and Z interlinking will be practiced then a slightly larger project can be started. Participants usually go home with a small bag or bronze age style hairnet made in your choice of linen, wool or cotton.
All materials supplied.
*Important* when checking out, use code 'workshop' to trigger free shipping. This is because the shop software can't tell the difference between a product and a booking, and there isn't anything to post out here as it's an in-person workshop booking.
Please bring a packed lunch and wear practical clothing, we will be working in one of the reconstructed buildings. If you have any physical accessibility needs, please contact the ATC for advice before booking and they will be able to give you more information on the site and how we can make sure you have the best possible experience.
About the tutor: Sally is an archaeologist and heritage educator with extensive experience in teaching ancient skills. Her courses are always flexible, with content being adjusted to suit the interests of participants as we go along, but expect a good balance of theoretical background as we explore the evidence as wel as plenty of hands on practice.
