Knitted to your specifications on our antique circular sock machine, these stockings have proven popular with Tudor and later re-enactors to go with high status costume.
'Double thickness' pure silk yarn in these stockings gives a good coverage and is an ideal choice for male legs where the hose will be on show, though also popular with the ladies where a very smooth opaque stocking is required. Hand wash.
New options! I've added a choice of plain leg or with a back seam detail (adds £2) and also standard length, which comes to just over the knee on most wearers, or thigh high, which is about 6inches longer unstretched (adds £5). If you need eiether length tweaking slightly to suit a particular outfit, thats fine, just add in a note and I'll adjust as I make them
My current yarn is an unbleached 'offwhite' 2ply (2/16nm) silk which can be overdyed later if you choose.
Made to order. The way our order book is currently working, we open the shop approximately once a quarter for new commissions and shut it again once we have as many orders as we think we can realistically make over the next three months. Please be aware that your order may fall anywhere into that timescale. We'll always aim to be as prompt as we can.
Heavyweight Silk Stockings
When ordering, please let me know any additional information to allow me to achieve a good fit for your foot and if you need any alteration making to the stocking length. I will also need to know approximately whether your legs are slim, average or heavy so I can adjust the tensions for the best possible fit.
Please note that it is possible that these stockings will not work well on extremely heavy legs as silk does not stretch in quite the same way as wool. Ask if you are unsure, I'm very happy to discuss options with you before finalising your order.
Stockings are generally made to reach a little above the knee and it is normal to need to garter these.
