Suitable for 18th and 19thC impressions, we've custom commissioned a robust marled yarn to create a mottled, 'clouded' or 'mixt' effect. Medium hemmed cuff, back seam and common heel (finished with a three needle bind off under the foot) as standard, there is also an option with a very comfortable short row heel for those whose heels won't be on show and who want a slightly cheaper option. Will come just over the knee on most wearers. Pure wool, handwash.
Made to order. The way our order book is currently working, we open the shop approximately once a month for new commissions and shut it again once we have as many orders as we think we can realistically make over the next 4-6 weeks. Please be aware that your order may fall anywhere into that timescale. We'll always aim to be as prompt as we can.
Clouded Stockings
Custom plied for us by yarn brokers JC Rennie in Scotland, they have been spinning this grist of yarn since (possibly!) 1798. Slightly heavier than the yarn in our other stockings, the knit is a little firmer, will fit a little more tightly and will hopefully have a good wear factor. Current shades are undyed white with dye blue, and undyed grey with undyed 'sheep black', other shades may be available by prior discussion. We suggest these stockings as best for those with calves under 18 inches in diameter.
